Interview with JIMMIE C. HOLLAND, MD, FAPMAt APM's 2007 Annual Meeting in Amelia Island, Florida, Dr. Jimmie C. Holland was interviewed in a special "Internet Press Conference" staged and recorded by APM's Public Relations Task Force (PRTF). The interview was conducted by John Blamphin. former Director of Communications of the American Psychiatric Association and now consultant to the PRTF. Dr. Holland is the Wayne E. Chapman Chair in Psychiatric Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. She was president of APM 1996-97. She chaired the Institute of Medicine (IOM) symposium on psychosocial services for cancer patients at the 2007 Annual Meeting. In the interview, Dr. Holland discusses the IOM report, which advises that all cancer patients be screened for psychosocial distress and be treated for it as needed. She also suggested that a Report Card system be developed to rate all hospitals on how well they perform this important task. The interviews were directed by Michael Blumenfield, MD, FAPM, founder of "ShrinkPod" and chair of the PRTF. Brian Bronson, MD, was the man behind the camera.
